State-of-the-art indoor sports arena display ushers in new era of fan entertainment
(Jan. 4, 2007) - Delaware North Companies-Boston recently unveiled its newest addition to TD Banknorth Garden -- home to the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins -- a multi-million dollar video scoreboard, Garden HDX, complete with three 360 degree LED rings and 4 HD video screens. The first fully functional high definition (HD) scoreboard in the country, the new display is the centerpiece of the TD Banknorth Garden renovation and a large part of Delaware North Companies' continual investment in fan entertainment.
"The Garden HDX is a state-of-the-art scoreboard that allows fans to view the best in sports display technology," said John Wentzell, president for Delaware North Companies-Boston. "We believe that this addition to TD Banknorth Garden demonstrates our commitment to creating the ultimate fan experience."
Garden HDX consists of four HD Mitsubishi Diamond LED flat video panels measuring 12'9" x 21' 4" and three full circle LED rings. The screens have 768 lines of LED dots, exceeding the HD standard of 720. The LED rings are capable of graphics, media and text, and contain nearly 1 million picture elements. Additionally, the scoreboard is equipped with ProAdÒ technology, by Daktronics, which uses the latest in LED technology to present real-time sports scores and statistics, video image, animated sponsor messages and vivid graphics with incredible brightness and wide-angle visibility around the arena.
In addition to housing the country's first HD scoreboard, the TD Banknorth Garden is the first and only indoor arena with an HD-capable control room linked to the HD video screen. The control room contains 54 Dell plasma 24-inch screens, four HD Ikegami cameras and one Canon HD camera. It also controls the robotic camera positioned beneath the scoreboard giving a 340-degree view of the arena. The state-of-the-art control room brings the HD broadcast live to the in-house audience, offering the best and most advanced quality video to Celtics and Bruins fans.
